Un-Plug n Pray (you don't get hacked)

I've been saying it for years. The UPnP protocol is dangerous. It adds convenience to home networking, but it was designed in a time when the concept of home based network security was still in the early days of development. I mean back then most of the internet access was still dial up and the number of devices using a home network usually counted in low single figures. The engineers wanted to make things as simple and easy as possible for home users to use networking.

Now we have malware that utilises the UPnP protocol to upen ports in a home router to allow the hackers to communicate with infected machines.

UnPlugnPray

It's time to disable UPnP by default.
